Kodiak Athletics: New Basketball Coaches on Board for 2018 -’19 Season
After an extensive search, Kodiak Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of our new boys’ basketball coaches, Anthony (Tony) Little and Cathy Boswell. Coach Little is familiar with Kodiak basketball as he was the head middle school coach from 2005-2008. During this time, his teams won three Black Forest League championships and finished with a 66-3 record after going 22-0 in 2007. His son Jalen was a student-athlete at CSS during his middle school years and played an integral part as the team’s point guard. Jalen continued his high school career at Palmer H.S. and Sierra H.S before playing collegiate basketball.
Coach Little is well known throughout the basketball circuit in Colorado Springs where he has coached boys and girls basketball (and soccer) at various high schools and club teams. When he is not coaching, he works at Shriever Air Force Base as a Civil Service Employee following his stellar career with the Air Force where he served as an Intelligence Operation Specialist for 24 years until his retirement in 2006.
Coach Little is extremely excited to be back at CSS, a place where he left his mark over ten years ago. “My family and I have always loved this school and how it prepares young people for life. I’ve turned down some other coaching positions, but this was one position I knew I had to accept. I look forward to making a quick impact while implementing fundamentals with fun basketball.” Coach Little will serve as the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach for both the US and MS programs, a job prerequisite to help create a program with continuity, progression, and similar systems.
In the Middle School program, Coach Rob Hedden will serve as the assistant coach under Coach Little. His coaching background at CSS will complement the program and help to build the bridge with the current players.
In the Upper School program, Coach Cathy Boswell will serve as the assistant coach for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball programs, primarily focusing on player development. Her extensive playing and coaching background for the past 30 years speaks for itself, and this Olympic gold medalist has already made an impact at CSS where the community has embraced “Bos.” She will continue to serve as an assistant coach for boys’ soccer prior to the basketball season and stay involved with the girls’ middle school basketball program. Boswell will continue to offer private lessons and will help to facilitate the summer basketball camps again this year. We are thrilled to be able to tap into her basketball expertise and broad coaching experiences.
“I am confident that I will be able to quickly impact the basketball programs and am happy to be returning as a coach for the Kodiaks. It’s been wonderful getting to know all the families and kids, and I appreciate all the support during this transitional time in my life,” added Boswell. CSS welcomes our newest basketball coaches to Kodiak Athletics!
