Girls Varsity Tennis · Best Season in School History for Girls’ Tennis

After placing second in the Regional tournament, the Kodiaks advanced all three singles players to the State Tournament in Greeley, CO, this past week.  Hina S. ’20, our #3 singles player, lost to a tough Aspen opponent 2-6, 2-6 in the first round, finishing in the top 16.  Kate G. ’20, who plays #2 singles and has been undefeated all season, won her first match against Eaton 6-2, 7-5, but lost an extremely close second match against Holy Family 4-6, 7-5, 3-6 to finish in the top 6.  Neither earned a playback match.

Freshman Jules T., who also finished the season undefeated at #1 singles, advanced the furthest for the Kodiaks.  Her first match was against D’Evelyn who she beat 6-1, 7-5, and her second match was Colorado Academy when she fought back to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.  In the semi-final match against May Thorpe from Steamboat, Jules lost her first match of the season 7-5, 1-6, 0-6, but she won her playback match against CSCS to finish 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to finish 4th in the state.

The Kodiaks finished with 11 points for an 11th place finish, finishing as the top 2A/3A school in the Colorado Springs area ahead of Vanguard, CSCS, and St. Mary’s.  The good news is that the Kodiaks are extremely young and their best years are ahead of them.
