In Saturday’s 2-4 loss to Rye, Katherine H. ’19 surpassed Ali G.’s ’18 season school record of 43 for most career goals when she beautifully placed a 25-yard kick over the goalie’s reach and into the net. It came from an unselfish assist from senior teammate Molly B. who was active on the front lines with Katherine throughout the match. Junior Kyle C. scored the first goal for the Kodiaks, but CSS could never get the lead against an attacking Rye offense who went on to score 4 goals.
Katherine’s 44 career goals come near the end of her soccer career as a Kodiak, and one more goal will tie the season record of 20 goals set by Nataya S. ’15. Both school records will be a nice send-off for this committed senior captain who has been playing soccer for a good part of her life. But if you were to ask her what would be the most meaningful aspect of this season, most assuredly she would remark on the team’s potential at a repeat in the CHSAA state tournament.
With four regular-season games this week, and a 4-7 record overall, the Kodiaks must bring their A-game each match in order to be considered for post-season playoffs. With Hatch at the front of the pack, surrounded by a feisty lineup that is showing improvement from the start of the season, the odds are in their favor.
Next up is Salida on Monday, April 29, at 5:15 on Boddington Field. Please join us next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for the Spring Sports Tailgate as the girls take on Buena Vista. Go Kodiaks!
