After a full day of tennis in Greeley at the 3A Girls’ Tennis State Tournament, CSS has already made school history and they are not finished yet. It’s the first time CSS has sent 5 players to the state tournament, and tomorrow all three singles players will be playing in the quarterfinal matches, aiming for a shot at an individual state championship. Currently CSS is tied for 5th place with Steamboat Springs with 9 total points. Peak to Peak, who won the state title last year, leads the field with a total of 18 points.
Jules T. ’21, who plays #1 singles, won 6-0, 6-0 against Sterling, and 6-3, 6-2 against Colorado Academy. She will face last year’s state champion from Peak to Peak, senior Trisha Somasundaram, at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Kate G. ’20, who plays #2 singles, did not give up a game today beating both Sterling and University 6-0, 6-0. She will face Aria Barbour, a junior from Dawson at 8:00 a.m. as well. Kate remains undefeated on the season.
Hina S. ’20, who plays #3 singles, prevailed over Pueblo County 6-2, 6-3 before staging a comeback to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 against D’Evelyn in three sets. She will face Wolf-Tinsman of Colorado Academy at 8:00 a.m.
Abrielle S. ’20 and Audrey B. ’22, who make up the #2 doubles team, lost their only match today 0-6, 2-6 to D’Evelyn. They await a possible playback game on Saturday, depending on how far D’Evelyn advances.
