Kodiaks News · Middle School Cross Country at Fox Run Park and Hollydot Golf Course

Last Friday the Kodiaks competed in the CCAL League Championships. Our 5th grade runners were too young to compete, so we ran just four athletes. Despite a challenging and hilly course, Elliott P. matched his time from the flat Palmer Lake course and finished 21st in the Boys’ A race. Naomi E. powered through the Girls’ A race alongside Immy M., despite an intense side ache. Of particular note at Fox Run was Tristan K.’s performance. He ran the entire course without taking any breaks and pulled over 1.5 minutes of his personal record time. In the process, he finished 18th, moving up 10 places in the Boys’ B race compared with his competitors at the Palmer Lake meet.

This Monday the team drove south to the Rye Invitational meet at Hollydot. Intense, hot winds buffeted runners on this nearly treeless, 2.1-mile race across the golf course. All the girls raced together, as did the boys. Naomi E. placed 12th of twenty 8th graders. Immy M. and Sophia B., after successfully finishing their race, took great pleasure (along with Tyler L., who was coming off an extended illness and did not run) in soaking their coach with ice water while cheering on the boys. Our boys, Elliott P., Sorren S., Levi G., and Ben G. ran as a pack through most of the boys’ race and all of them had very respectable performances, finishing in the top 50% of the 6th grade cohort of 51 runners: Levi 21st, Sorren 17th, Elliott 16th, and Ben 12th. The Kodiak star of the day was undeniably Ben G., who made a powerful, extended breakaway in mile two to lead the Kodiaks across the finish line with a time of 14:57!

The gun for the Kodiak Classic, our final meet of this season, will go off on Boddington Field at 4:15 p.m. this Thursday. Please come out to cheer on our runners.
