With a chance of making school history, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams have been mentally and physically preparing for tomorrow’s Regional Meet at Monument Valley Park. The girls’ team secured the Black Forest League championship on October 5 with a third-consecutive first place finish by senior Kate G. The team received support from senior sisters Autumn C. (4th place) and Kylie C. (7th place). Their efforts solidified a team win for the Kodiaks for the first time since the Kodiaks brought home the league trophy in 2015. In winning the Black Forest League title, the Kodiak harriers upset the Peyton team ranked #3 in the state for 2A Girls. Junior Brooke A. also earned all-league honors by finishing in 9th place in the five-kilometer race.
On the boys’ side, senior Clay R. led the Kodiaks with a 3rd place finish followed closely by Orlando M. ’21 in 4th place. Clay, Orlando, and the rest of the boys’ team are looking to carry this momentum into the Regional meet where the team hopes to earn the first-ever team qualification to the State Meet for CSS boys. Senior Kyle J. did not run in the BFL meet but will be on hand Thursday for the Regional Meet before rushing off to lead the boys’ soccer team.
The boys’ soccer team is in action tomorrow night at El Pomar Youth Sports Complex at 6:30 p.m. under the lights. Come out and cheer them on in this important league matchup with ECA. Go Kodiaks!
