After a day of lopsided victories at the annual Kodiak Classic on Friday, the night culminated with a 55-57 loss to Pikes Peak Christian on the boys’ side. It proved to be a nail biter to the final buzzer as the teams battled back and forth, but in the end the 13 three-pointers from the Eagles was just too much. The Kodiaks were led by junior Ben M. with 21 points and senior Luke T. with 19 points. The boys play at 12:30 today in the consolation game.
On the girls’ side balanced scoring was the highlight of the night with three players in double digits. Junior Alair F. led the way with 12 points, followed by senior captains Kate G. and Sarina M. with 10 tallies each. Bailey R. ’21 managed 8 points along with Whitney R. ’21 with 7. The defensive effort led to easy baskets in a 57-17 route of Pikes Peak Christian.
Coach Vaughan was pleased with the effort but is challenging the girls to sharpen their game with each outing. “We are one of the deepest teams I’ve coached at CSS, and we plan to build on that with refinement, court time, and JV games this year. We must keep the pedal down and make progress day in and day out, moving toward our goal of a conference title this year.”
The girls play in the Championship game today at 2:00 in Tutt Field House. Come on out before the snow falls and cheer on the Kodiaks!
