For the first time in school history, the girls’ basketball team has earned the respect of voting coaches and media outlets to earn a spot in CHSAA’s Top 10 2A poll. The 39-32 key victory over Peyton on Saturday was on CHSAA’s radar and has been a highly-anticipated game since last year’s matchup at District Playoffs when the #4 seeded Kodiaks upset the #1 Panthers. The poll comes out every Monday at noon, and if the girls can maintain momentum heading into this week’s 3-game lineup (Ellicott, Dolores Huerta, and ECA), they should remain at the top of the polls, amassing even more respect for the program.
Coach Vicki Vaughan commented, “It’s our time to show what CSS girls’ basketball is all about. We will continue to take one day at a time, one game at a time, but eyeing a trip to the State tournament for the first time in school history is a driving force. Honestly, this team has the perfect blend of chemistry, depth, skill, quickness, and size to not only make it to State, but to win it.”
