varsity boys basketball · Boys’ Basketball Finding a Rhythm in 4-0 Run

The CSS boys’ basketball team is on a 4-0 run with wins over Calhan, Cripple Creek, Fountain Valley School, and Platte Canyon to finish the latest stretch at 8-7 overall, 3-2 in Black Forest League play. While playing injury free the Kodiaks have dominated their opponents on the boards and inside the paint where senior Luke T. and junior Ben M. are finding their rhythm, both averaging 13 points per game. Senior Spencer B. is collecting 9 points per game and dishing out nearly 4 assist each contest as the starting point guard. Ben M. ’21 is leading the team with 8 rebounds a game, followed by Luke T. with 6 per game.

Senior Kyle J. is back in action, hustling at both ends of the floor as one of the best defenders and rebounding guards in the league (4 pg). The final starting position has been up for grabs, sometimes filled by senior Leo G. who played his best basketball at Calhan, adding 6 points to the league win. Lately freshman Andrew H. has stepped up for the Kodiaks, hitting key baskets at critical times and shooting 63% from the free throw line. Sophomore James H. is gaining more confidence with each game, finding ways to contribute within the 3-point line with defense and passing. Hayden H. ’20, William S. ’21, and Tristan T. ’23 round out the roster for the Kodiaks and are improving with each game.

A preview of Friday’s BFL contest at Thomas Maclaren pairs the 8-7 Kodiaks against the 6-6 Highlanders with both teams tied for third place in the league at 3-2. A victory for CSS would secure a higher seed for District Playoffs, putting the boys in prime position to continue their season into Regional play.  Coach Tony Little has been pleased with their play over the two-week span, but is looking for “more consistency and execution of the little things” as the regular season is winding down. “When we are all healthy and able to play, we are unstoppable,” added Little. “We have an inside-outside game with some of the best athletes in the league, and when we put it all together good things happen.”

The boys are back in action on Tuesday at Tutt Field House when they host the Jaguars from (3A) James Irwin.  The JV boys start the action at 4:00 p.m., followed by the Varsity girls at 5:30 and Varsity boys at 7:00 p.m. Go Kodiaks!
