Friday’s 44-48 loss against Holly in the first round of Regional was not how the Kodiaks anticipated exiting tournament play, especially after amassing 19 wins in a record-breaking season. The game plan was nearly executed to perfection, minus the 23 costly turnovers down the stretch. “We remained out of foul trouble, and shot fairly well from the free throw line,” commented Coach Vicki Vaughan. “Our scoring was balanced, and our rebounding was solid. Our late-game turnovers just created the perfect storm and Holly took advantage of it.”
CSS was led by Whitney R. ’21 who found her rhythm in the second half for 17 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Sarina M. added 10 points and 6 rebounds and left it all on the court for her final game. Junior Bailey Reid was a dominant force in the paint with 6 points and 8 rebounds, even while having to sit out most of the game after a collision that broke her nose. Mia C. ’22 scored 6 points and found her teammates for 7 assists, a season high for the sophomore point guard. Alair F. added 5 points and 8 rebounds, a season high as well. Cameron R. played important minutes for the Kodiaks, gaining valuable time and experience as a freshman.
“Obviously the girls are devastated and realize that the opportunity passed before their eyes. But what I love about our athletes at CSS is their resilience. This team is already getting together this weekend, talking about the mistakes made, looking at game tape, and refocusing for next year. My pride for them runs deep and this team will always go down in school history as the best ever,” added Coach Vaughan. “I’m so appreciative of our senior class (Sarina, Kate, and Abrielle) and how they elevated our program these past four years. For this, I will always be grateful.”
