On Friday, the Kodiaks competed in the Black Forest League meet at Peyton High School. The girls’ team claimed the conference title for the first time in five years with all four runners finishing in the top 10. Co-senior captain Heather H. ran an impressive race finishing in 2nd place, along with Lucia S. ’24 (3rd), Brooke A. ’21 (7th), and Kaylin P. ’21 (10th).
On the boys’ side, senior captain Orlando M. crossed the finish line in 4th place for CSS, the second-best finish ever for CSS in the league race. Congratulations as well to Andrew H. ’23 (13th place), Alex H. ’24 (17th), Nathan G. ’23, (19th), and Aaron Y. ’21 (23rd). Theo M. ’23 ran a personal best time for 18th place.
According to assistant coach, David Benson, “It’s been a long time since the Kodiaks have seen such a strong finish from a full boys’ team. Our girls won the Black Forest League Championship for the first time in 5 years! Thanks to all the fans who came out to cheer our team on. We are so proud of all of our Kodiak runners.”
Next up is the 2A Regional Championships/State Qualifiers, this Thursday, October 8, at Monument Valley Park. The boys will start running at 4:45 p.m., followed by the girls at 5:30 p.m. To qualify for the state meet on Saturday, October 17th, at the Norris Penrose Center, the Kodiaks must finish as one of the top 4 as a team or one of the top 5 individual finishers (not qualified through their team).
