Two respectable volleyball programs battled it out at CSS tonight with the Kodiaks prevailing over St. Mary’s 3-1. Each set was tight, changing leads several times with momentum favoring the serving team. The girls from CSS displayed poise and teamwork when it mattered most, coming back time after time to take the lead. Kudos to St. Mary’s who battled back after trailing 0-2 to win the critical third set, and again in the final set which saw both teams serve match point on different occasions. The Kodiaks found a way to get the job done, winning the set 28-26.

Coach Kyong Lee commented, “It was a good program win for us, and I’m especially proud of how the girls found the mental toughness to close it out tonight. They pulled through when it truly counted, and we improved as a team tonight.”

Sophomores Elise L. and Whitney R. led the attack with 21 and 14 kills each. Libero Molly B. ’19 tallied 13 points on serve and defended the back row with the poise of a senior. She recently collected her 1000th dig and 1000th service return, an achievement that will make the CSS record books before her career ends.

Senior captain Hannah G. served 12 points and dished out 18 assists, and her favorite left-handed dink over the net caught the Pirates off guard throughout the night. Junior Sarina M. led the Kodiaks with 20 assists, finding her teammates all over the court for the kills. Overall, it was a game that could’ve gone either way, but CSS proved to want it more and displayed the teamwork to get the job done. Next up is Vanguard at CSS on Thursday night, starting at 4:00 p.m. Go Kodiaks!
