The Kodiaks traveled to Calhan for their season opener and pulled off a victory over the Bulldogs 33-31. After trailing by 5 points at the close of the 3rd quarter, the girls continued to create havoc with their full-court defense which resulted in 14 points in the 4th quarter. Guards Cameron R. ’23 (11 points) and Soniah E. ’23 (18 points) combined efforts for 29 of the 33 points, supported by Cailan R. ’23 and Phoebe B. ’25 who each had a basket.
“For our first game of the season, the goal was to learn by playing. As the game progressed, the girls became more confident in their defense, they made critical adjustments, they learned strategies, and they had fun,” added Coach Vaughan. “The win was a bonus and was a great way to kick off the season. Now we know what we need to work on moving forward.”
The girls are back in action Thursday (1/10) when they host Banning Lewis Ranch for their first CCAL game. B game is at 4:00 and A game is at 5:00. Go Kodiaks!
